Why Do the Major Studios Hate the Little Guy

My family and I have just started a small business, I'm sure anyone who reads this will wonder why a person in there right mind would start a business in Michigan with the economy in the trash can. When it's a great opportunity, you have to try. Our business name is DISC-GO DVD RENTAL, we rent DVD's and Games. We are an authorized DVDNow Kiosk Distributor, we have 4 Kiosks in operation at this time. We price our DVD's at .99 the first night, then $1.99 the second, a great value for the consumer! We carry only new releases. When we first got started in our new business we could get all the new release titles from our distributor, then the studios started putting pressure on the distributor to hold the titles back 30 t0 45 day or they would pull their brand from the distributor. We manage to keep all the new titles in our machine, we buy the movies retail the day of the release. It looks to me that the major studios are trying to do the same thing the music industry tried to do years ago, hold value priced music downloads back from the consumer, we all see where that got them!! I truly believe that the DVD Rental Kiosk is here to stay and will continue to be a great value to the consumer. We at DISC-GO plan to keep bringing the consumer great movies and a great value!!!!!

Why we need Popcorn Movies

What is a Popcorn Movie? Well in it's basic terms, it's a movie that doesn't have much substance but packs one heck of a wallop! Many critics deadpan these types of movies, but I have a much easier approach... I love em!

When Transformers : Revenge of the Fallen, came out it received horrible reviews. Even Harry Knowles (the creator of Aintitcoolnews.com) urged people to stay away.

So what did the people think?? How bout a 200 million haul in the first weekend. I went to see it, and I enjoyed it. Why? Because I knew what I was seeing. I wasn't expecting "Citizen Kane", I was expecting a Popcorn Movie. I wanted to see explosions, and robots fighting, and Miss Megan Fox looking attractive. And I wasn't let down. Was there errors in the plot? Sure. Was some of the script campy? Absolutely. But then again it was a movie about robot aliens that can transform into cars, and planes. So for me believability went out the window during the opening credits. Some critics really hounded this film and announced it as one of the worst films of the year. Do I think it should be nominated for an academy award? No, but I do think that some of these critics should take a step back for minute. It's like a food critic saying that McDonald's serves bad food, and then they wonder why so many people still eat there. Because believe it or not, some people enjoy the food, and some people even crave it.

These critics were trying to rip down a movie about talking robots that's based on a children's cartoon. It's supposed to be a little out there, and it's supposed to be fun. Now am I saying that you can't have both? That you can't have a Popcorn Movie and have it be critically enjoyed. No, in fact there are several films that do just that (The Dark Knight). But I still don't see what's so wrong with a film doing one or the other.

Sometimes when we see Popcorn Movies we want to be taken to that off based reality of talking robots, superheros with claws, and monsters. Why? Because we all know that we'll probably never ever see these things in real life. Probably, you never know if a radioactive spider could bite a young teenage science whiz.

I remember when I was young watching these movies and having fun. I think sometimes as a whole we have forgotten that. We've forgotten the enjoyment that comes from watching movies. We listen to critics say this and that and we don't even bother to form our own opinions. We like to break down each and every detail of a movie so much that we loose sight of the fact that we're not even enjoying watching the movie anymore. Don't get me wrong, I love to talk about what the director was trying to show here, and what the writer was stating there. I also know that when I stop trying to find the flaws in everything, I can then really start to enjoy the beauty of it all.

Now here's another reason renting these movies makes sense. It's only .99 to rent a movie for the night. So you take a chance on a movie that maybe you wouldn't have given a shot before. What are you really out? A buck? Sometimes that's when we find those films that get us excited. Excited for explosions, excited for car chases, excited for talking robots, and even excited for Miss Megan Fox.

In life, as well as Popcorn movies I think we all need to step back and take a moment to enjoy what's in front of us and smell the roses. Does this philosophy get bad Popcorn movies off the hook? No, I still want to see quality movies. 120 minutes of all explosions and no substance is not what I am looking for. But I do know that the substance that so many of these critics want is better suited for other films. The public will always enjoy these movies, just like we will always enjoy the Big Mac... It's just the American way.

So keep watching....

Why I Love Movies

Why do I love movies? Why does anyone love movies? What does a movie mean to the average person? Growing up in a house full of kids (there was four of us all a year apart) sometimes you can get lost in the shuffle. Especially if you're the youngest, which I was. For me it was a world that I was the king in. I could escape to movies at any time, any place. The only thing stopping me was the limit of my imagination, which thankfully has never had much of a limitation. I was the kid that would have rather stayed inside watching Casablanca then going outside and finding bugs.

To me anything could happen in the movies, anyone could win, and anyone could get the girl. The underdog would always pull off the victory and the bad guy always seemed to get what was coming to him. The first films I really got into was James Bond movies. My father belonged to some movie club and he ordered all of them. Every time one would come in the mail it was movie night for my Dad and me. To this day it is one of my favorite memories that I have. I watched as Sean and Roger battled the evil Dr. No, Goldfinger, and Blofelt. I was hooked, and there has never been a moment where I wanted to go back.

Movies can change people's lives. You don't believe me? 1995 - my junior class was required to watch Schindler's List. I've never seen so many strong, cocky classmates humbled by what was so beautifully put on the screen. 1989 - my fifth grade class erupts in applause as Captain Von Trapp tears down the Nazi flag in The Sound of the Music. 1994- my tenth grade English class stunned when they found out that Strange Brew is based on Hamlet.

Now what ever the case may be, everyone has a movie story. Where they were when they saw this, or who they were with when they went to that. That's what's so great about movies, you always remember everything about it even sometimes more then the actually film. Movies are the great escape that everyone looks for. Where else can you go when you want to laugh, cry, or be scared to death? I never will be able to storm Omaha Beach on D-Day, but for thirty minutes or so at the beginning of Saving Private Ryan, I'm there. I won't ever run onto the field at Notre Dame Stadium (don't know if I would - life long Michigan fan) but I feel like I'm running next to Rudy as he full fills a dream. I have never been to San Fransisco or am I a cop. But watching Dirty Harry makes me believe I'm standing right next to Clint and I can't remember if he fired five or six shots either.

That's why I love movies. Because there is a magic in film making that only seems to get better as the years go on. Movies can bring friends and families together, they can make you think out loud, and they can make you grateful for the life you lead when you're not in that magical world.

So if you haven't had the opportunity to check out Disc-go DVD rentals I encourage you to take a look. Now a days as much as we need entertainment to keep our heads held high, the cost of it can bring you back down. Movies for .99, and if it's your first time renting you can get your first rental night free. Right now we have three locations: 1 in Greenville at Mr. T's Party Store, 2 in Lansing at the Quality Dairy's on Saginaw and Jolly.

This could be your opportunity to go to some fantastic places without ever leaving your living room. This could be your opportunity to start making those memories that will last a lifetime. This could be your opportunity to change your life. And this could be your opportunity to figure out why you love movies.

So keep watching...
